Rackspace to implement RPZ on DNS to enhance security

Written by George Bardissi | Oct 20, 2016 9:41:43 PM

If you don't know BVoIP utalized Rackspace as our core Infrastructure-as-a-Service provider worldwide.

We have listed many benefits to how that has helped us tackle the "big picture" as such:

The most recent benefit is the following:

In order to protect Rackspace customers and infrastructure from various forms of malicious software and server compromises, Rackspace will be implementing RPZ (Response Policy Zone) filtering on our caching DNS servers. This affects all servers that use Rackspace’s DNS servers to resolve their outbound DNS queries.  The purpose of RPZ is to match all queries to a list of domains known to be involved in malicious activity including DDoS, malware, phishing, etc.  This planned non-disruptive change will take place on Oct 27th globally.

More information on RPZ is available here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Response_policy_zone
The domain blacklist can be queried here: https://www.spamhaus.org/lookup/

We will continue to make our partners aware of enhancements and changes being made to our global infrastructure.
