BVoIP TIP: If You Manually Change Phone Settings, Chances Are It Will Come Back to BITE You!

Written by George Bardissi | Mar 24, 2017 4:23:32 PM
We get that customer's are picky at times causing you to try and make random changes to appease what may seem like basic requests. Here's the deal, if you go into a phone to make a minor change it may come back to bite you and here is why!

Manual Changes Are Not Scalable ... Especially Because..

  1. If there are mass changes that need to be done to correct things like Day Light Savings Time and you need to re-provision your devices those local changes will get wiped out
  2. If you need to factory reset a phone those local changes will get wiped out
  3. If you need to migrate to another server or PBX version your local changes will get wiped out
  4. If you need to do a mass firmware upgrade / downgrade that requires a new template base your local changes will get wiped out.
  5. If your phone is defective and needs to be replaced you need to manually re-create the local changes

The moral to this story is to find a way to make your changes at the template / provisioning level rather than short cut your way through which can result in TIME BURN!

Stay tuned as we will make things a bit more easy on this topic with upcoming feature releases to our Unified Management Platform.
