Unregistered Extensions Not Showing in Directory

This article will explain what an unregistered extension is and how to get them to show in the directory.

Registered vs. Unregistered Extensions

What does Registered mean?

A Registered Extension indicates that the extension is registered with the phone system. This means they have logged into the web-based softphone, 3CX application and/or has a physical phone successfully provisioned. 

When looking at an extensions list within the bvoip phone system, there are lightning bolts to the left of each extension. The color of the lightning bold indicates if the extension is registered or not.

  • Green: Registered
  • Red: Unregistered

What causes a Registered Extension to become Unregistered?

A Registered Extension can become Unregistered if they have signed out of the web-based softphone and are not registered with the phone system elsewhere (3CX application and/or physical phone).

How do I get an Unregistered Extension Registered?

Simply assist that extension user login to the web-based softphone and/or 3CX application. There are a few ways to complete this:

  • Send the extension user a new welcome email by clicking on the lightning bolt to the left of their extension.
  • Provide the extension user with their login credentials from the General tab of the extension details page.

Can I have Unregistered Extensions show in my full list of Company Extensions?

Yes, Unregistered Extensions can be displayed in the web-based softphone and 3CX mobile applications. Follow the below instructions for both routes:

  • Web-Based Softphone Instructions:
    1. Log into the Webclient softphone.
    2. Navigate to the three dot menu on the left-hand side menu.
    3. Select Settings
       
    4. Navigate to the View section.
    5. Here, check the box next to Show Unregistered Extensions.
  • Mobile Application Instructions:
    1. Log into the 3CX Mobile Application.
    2. Navigate to Settings.
    3. Toggle the option to Show Unregistered Extensions.
