bvoip Phone System Glossary of Terms
This article includes a full glossary of terms related to the bvoip phone system.
- 1Stream: Multi-CRM application that integrates exclusively with the bvoip phone system; this can enhance the phone system for users to be able to perform key interactions that streamline sales and customer service
- bvoip Webclient: Phone system website where the softphone can be accessed, along with account settings, voicemails, chats, queues, etc.; 1Stream is integrated here as well
- bvoip Softphone: Phone system website where the softphone can be accessed, along with account settings, voicemails, chats, queues, etc.; 1Stream is integrated here as well
- Att. Transfer: Warmly transfer a call to another extension by speaking with the extension first and then bringing the call onto the line; also called warm transfer
- Blind Transfer: Direct transfer a call to another extension; also called cold transfer
- BLF (Busy Lamp Field): Keys that can be set at the extension level for quick dial options
- Call Forwarding: Feature in which a phone or phone number can be redirected for incoming calls
- Call Path/Flow: Path that one call takes when being received by a phone system
- Call Queues: Process for inbound calls to route to a predefined call queue; more complex than Ring Groups by allowing more ring strategies, recordings, etc.
- CDS (Call Data Service): Configuration file on the backend of the phone system
- CNAM (Caller ID Name): Name information that is tied to a phone number and can be displayed on devices that receive a phone call from that number
- Conference Call: When three or more people are on the same call together
- Control Portal: bvoip Portal where you can access all phone systems
- CSR (Customer Service Record): Document detailing the ownership of a phone number
- DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunications): Wireless or cordless phone; Usually includes a base and handset phone
- DID (Direct Inward Dialing): In simplest terms, a phone number
- DND (Do Not Disturb): All available lines are marked busy when a phone is set to DND, prompting all calls to forward to a voicemail
- DTMF (Dial Tone Multi-Frequency): Can allow for custom menu key options for an IVR in the bvoip phone system
- Extension User: Extensions within the phone system, also called End User
- FlowRoute: SIP provider; offers SIP Service as well as functionality with SMS to Chat
- FOC (Firm Order Commitment): Date on which the losing carrier has stated they will release a phone number to the current carrier; this confirms the date of the port
- GUI (Graphic User Interface): Visual portal to login to the device using the local device IP address
- Hardware: Physical equipment to be used with their phone system; i.e., a physical desk phone
- Inbound Rules: How the phone system dictates where a call will be directed when an inbound call is received
- IVR (Interactive Voice Response): Audible menu of options where a caller can use their dial pad to direct their own call; also known as an Auto Attendant or Digital Receptionist
- Key Segments: Breakdown of a call’s path inside the phone system; can be viewed within 1Stream
- Line Key: A key on a physical phone that can be configured to manage calls; i.e., speed dials
- LOA (Letter of Authorization): Legal document allowing new SIP service provider to port a phone number; also known as Letter of Agency
- MPP (Managed Provisioning Portal): a separate bvoip Portal to assist in provisioning hardphones if the zero-touch provisioning is not working correctly; integrated with bvoip phone systems for improved zero touch provisioning
- Nesting: When a phone system destination is linked to another destination in the phone system; such as an IVR menu to link to another IVR or a Call Queue flowing into another Call Queue
- Line Number Port (LNP): A request to move numbers/DIDs from a previous SIP Trunk provider to a new SIP Trunk provider
- Outbound Rules: How the phone system determines how each extension user will need to dial out to make an outbound call
- PBX (Private Branch Exchange): In simplest terms, the backend management of a phone system
- Provisioning: Process to configure a hardphone with the bvoip phone system
- QoS (Quality of Service): Determines the order that data enters or leaves a network
- Ring Groups: Basic process for inbound calls to route to a predetermined group of extension users; also known as Call Group or Hunt Group
- Ring Strategy: The way an inbound call gets directed to extension users through a Ring Group or Call Queue
- Shared Parking: Option to be used as a call waiting feature for multiple lines (10 shared parking spaces by default)
- Skill Based Routing: Ring strategy for Call Queues where agents can be ranked based on skill/abilities
- Softphone: Application that can establish a connection to the phone system and service provider, allowing users to make and receive calls without a physical phone; available via the web or through desktop and/or mobile applications
- Software: Cloud based equipment, such as a softphone
- SIP (Session Initiation Protocol): The way that some software or phones reach out to another computer or phone to confirm if they have an open connection to be directly linked
- SIP Authentication: Credentials for a service provide that allow a phone system to place and receive calls; usually includes an authentication ID and password
- SIP Service Provider: Company that supplies the dial tone which allows a phone system to make and receive calls
- SIP Trunk: Line or path that helps calls made from an outside line reach the internal phone system line
- SIPTRUNK.com: Popular SIP Trunk provider; provides the DID and dial tone for the PBX
- SSO (Single Sign-On): Allows users to log into the bvoip phone system using their Microsoft login details
- Toll-Free Number: Phone number that is free for callers to reach by any phone because the costs are covered by the number’s owner
- UniConsole: App within Microsoft Teams; allows for the use of the softphone and phone system features directly within Teams; also referred to as the Microsoft Teams Operator Panel
- Voicemail Greetings: Audio file that callers hear before they leave a voicemail
- Voicemail to Email: Process by which voicemail messages are converted digitally and sent as an email attachment to the extension that the voicemail was left
- Voicemail Transcription: Process to turn voicemails into a readable format
- VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol): Ability to send audio to another device using the internet
- User Binding: Administrative users of the bvoip control portal can be tied to an extension within a specific phone system; this allows the administrative users to use the softphone without multiple logins
